Conferences

'Analytics Christmas' comes every year in the form of MeasureCamp London, and this year was no exception. Jam-packed of talks on AI and the rapidly evolving nature of 'analytics' work. Here's some thoughts and musings from my time there, at least before the pub...

Tech masters

It goes without saying that technology is a core part of our industry, and my job.

I've see Dan Murovtsev from Stape talk a few times now, and each time is different (not 'doing the circuit' as it were with a single deck) and you're guaranteed to come out having learned something cool. This time was no exception - using sGTM (ofc) to minimise costly API calls when only needed then in a handful of tags, preventing them being called every time.

David Vallejo is another person that contributes so much to the industry. The mastermind behind Analytics Debugger which I use in some form daily. This time David was talking about Google Analytics for apps, or GA4, or GA for Firebase, or was that Firebase Analytics?!

(It's Google Analytics for Firebase btw.)

Deep thinkers

I love Bhav Patel, and he knows it too! Always great seeing Bhav do 'his thing' and talk about personal successes and failures throughout his career. Very inspirational and this time was no exception on Huel's 'self-serve' data journey.

I heard about John Woods's talk from some of the other facilitators on the way into the venue as "the best talk I've ever seen". So of course I had to see it for myself, and it did not disappoint - even if John did run out of time. The gist was how British photo reconnaissance in WW2 teaches us how to better organise digital analytics today. Very cool.

Fun times!

I got to finally chat with (albeit briefly) Krista Seiden, who I've spoken to over the years here and there. This time she represents Amplitude, and we got to chat about marketing vs. product analytics, pros and cons of Google's analytics strategy, and life between the U.S. and the Netherlands. Next time hopefully we'll have more than 5 mins!

Then of course the party started in the pub down the road after everything wrapped up in the conference. Free bar and buffet food always goes down well. Until next year...
